Hotel Information

Santai Hotel is a small, boutique hotel that caters to the traveler who wants to get away from it all and stay in a 'local' high quality resort accommodation with all the comforts of home.

The detached bungalows and the rooms are built in the Sulawesi style with thatched roofs and local timbers. Local natural materials are used to create a Balinese ambience. The bungalows, fishponds, restaurant, and 16-meter swimming pool are surrounded by lush green gardens, full of the fragrances of frangipani and flowers of the East.

For those quiet times you can relax in the gardens under the shade of the pagoda and read a book from our library or just watch the ocean gently lapping the shore.

Directly in the front of the hotel is a beautiful coral reef which is one of the best in the area for snorkeling and observing underwater world. You can see big variety of fish and beautiful corals and occasionally even dolphins can be spotted from the beach. Snorkeling equipment is available for hire at reception.

Location Highlights

Bali has earned itself a long string of appellations, including the “Morning of the World,” “Island of the Gods” and the “Last Paradise on Earth.” Although it has undergone much development, most of the island still deserves those accolades. Its natural beauty, the colorful Balinese Hindu festivals and the friendliness of the people lure vacationers here again and again.

Most of the major attractions on the Island are accessible on a day trip, but more often than not once visitors arrive in Amed they don't want to leave its peace and tranquility. There are no tourist shops or annoying peddlers hawking their wares.

Mystic Hindu temples abound, from large and ornate to the simpler village style, and they can be visited at any time.

The local reef and dive sites are among the very best on the island with the unique pygmy seahorses and many other indigenous sea life and they offer a variety of choices from diving down to a wrecked ship about 20 minute's drive away to walking out 10-metres from the beach in front of the hotel to swim and snorkel with a multitude of colorful tropical fish.

Excursion to Ubud

Join Ruben and Renata McAllister and Janis Ericson on this exciting excursion to Ubud, Bali. Ubud has long been known as the village of painters. In the 1930s the encouragement of the royal family attracted foreign artists and intellectuals seeking the real Bali, and so the village's international reputation was born. A peaceful hamlet until the 1980s, Ubud developed into a small town packed with galleries, museums, craft shops, excellent restaurants, beautiful rice fields, and hotels. However, Ubud spends much of its new prosperity on ritual ceremonies and conservation of traditional art forms.

We'll be visiting many points of interest in Ubud, including Museum Puri Lukisan, Pura Taman Saraswati Temple, Monkey Forest Sanctuary, Rice field Walk, and the Bali Bird Park. We'll also enjoy an evening with the famous Kechak fire dancers at the Royal Palace. Because it's so inexpensive, Ubud is a great place to shop, receive healing treatments, and eat.

If you'd like to join us for this week, email us your interest. We'll provide all the details at that time.

What to Bring

Bali's climate is consistently warm throughout the year, and average temperatures in February are 85F. We'll be going during the rainy season, so you may want a poncho for the afternoon showers. Amed is a casual area, but according to Balinese customs plastic flip flops and bare shoulders are considered rude. Leather sandals and T-shirts are fine. Tourists can often get away with tank tops, but reserve those for hotel use only. To visit temples, you must wear a sarong which can be bought or borrowed nearly anywhere. You'll also want one good pair of walking shoes.

A passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry into Indonesia is required for travel. You'll also need to obtain a Visa Upon Arrival, which is usually $25US and is obtained at the Denpasar Airport in Bali.

Due to the humid climate and natural surroundings, bring plenty of bug spray and sunscreen. You'll also want an airtight container for storing anything that can be damaged by humidity. For the workshop, you may want a notebook and pen. And, of course, bring a camera with plenty of storage! I would also highly recommend reading a travel guide on Bali to familiarize yourself with the culture and customs. I like the DK Guide to Bali and Lompoc, but Lonely Planet has a good book too.

If you're heading to Ubud with us, you'll probably want to bring some nicer clothes for evening. It's still very casual, though, so cotton dresses for ladies and polo shirts for men are fine.

Who Should Attend?

This retreat was designed for healers of all types. Our main focus of the week will be on building and re-building a healthy healer identity, which is based on Janis's work blending NLP and ThetaHealing. No prior knowledge of these techniques is required for attendance, but if you are trained in these areas you'll have an even more interesting experience.

The week will be very laid back and relaxed, so anyone between the ages of 15 and 70 will be able to participate. Any activities are voluntary, and most will involve minimal physical exertion. For those looking for more active exercise, options are available.

Call/write now for details on this exciting opportunity!
